Skyward by Brandon Sanderson is a YA Sci-fi. I have no idea why I waited so long to read another book by Brandon Sanderson. He’s a fantastic story teller and here’s why; his books are funny, he doesn’t fail to keep his audience engaged and his characters are well developed.
I’ve read five books by Brandon Sanderson now and four out of the 5 were hilarious. I read The Reckoners Series, most of the Mistborn, the first book in the series and now Skyward. Mistborn was the only one that didn’t have the same light hearted tone, but I can understand why. Brandon Sanderson does a fantastic job of keeping things fun even when some more dark or sad themes come up in his stories. I really appreciate this because I don’t want to read just to be depressed. If you’re not interested in funny books, steer clear of The Reckoners Series and Skyward but I think you should still consider trying Mistborn.
Brandon Sanderson doesn’t fail to keep his audience engaged. He keeps the story interesting with (mostly) original plots and he writes very different books. He’s written YA, adult fiction, romance, action and sci-fi. In Skyward, he does an amazing job world building and creating such an interesting and dynamic storyline. It’s very hard to set the book down once you’ve started reading.
Brandon Sanderson’s characters are my all time favourite. I fell in love with David Charleston in Steelheart and now I can’t get enough of Spensa in Skyward. He writes the type of adventures I love to read. Skyward is a cross between Star Wars and Top Gun. Spensa is a character I wouldn’t mind reading another several books about. Her narration drives the plot so flawlessly.
In all, Brandon Sanderson is a fantastic author. He’s definitely worth checking out if you’ve never read any of his work before. After reading Skyward I immediately bought the second book! Can’t wait to continue Spensa’s journey!
Official Synopsis:
Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible-assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.
