Wow! Steelheart (The Reckoners #1) by Brandon Sanderson is an amazing story. I couldn’t stop reading. Chapter after chapter, the book just kept getting better. This book alone is spectacular but the whole Reckoners Trilogy is astounding.

Steelheart is about a world where there are superheroes… except instead of using their powers for good, they use them for evil. These Superheroes are called Epic’s. David Charleston, the main character, was personally affected by an Epic when he was young and ever since, he hungers for revenge. David is eager to join the Reckoners, a group of ordinary people coming together to kill all the Epics they can. He eventually slips his way into the Reckoners, and aids them on their journey to bring peace.

I love this book so much because of it’s combination of comedy, romance and action. It has just the right amount of nerdy-ness and danger. I loved the main character’s personality and his ability to make jokes in the most dangerous moments. I’ve never laughed out loud while reading but I did many times throughout this book.

However, I did get thrown off by the prologue. I was confused by it and refused to continue reading but finally picked it up a year later. Oh. My. GOSH. You know when a book reads like a movie? When you‘re immersed in the world, with the characters, laughing beside them? This book was all that for me and so much more. It took so long to finally read past the prologue and into the first few chapters but boy oh boy was it worth it. I was so mad at myself for not reading it sooner.

Brandon Sanderson is a spectacular writer and primarily writes fantasy. It pains me that this book isn’t as well known as it should be. It’s hilarious, fast-paced, and action packed. It’s witty and the dialogue flows so nicely. Not the mention the inner dialogue was on point. And the plot is like the cherry on top! Plot twists and betrayals throughout the entire series. The dynamic between the characters is perfect. I love when stories have a group/team of characters and Steelheart has the idle team of badass heroes and I absolutely loved it!
